Why Soy Wax?

Wax is the main ingredient used in candles, which is why it’s important to know what wax is on your candle considering that you burn them in your home/workplace.

You may have heard of Paraffin which has been the cheapest wax and most preferred wax over the years, as of recently Soy Wax has now taken over.

What’s the difference between Soy and Paraffin?

Let’s start with Paraffin wax, Paraffin wax is still used a lot but only due to the low costs and the ability to produce a good scent through.
But cheaper isn’t always better, one of the biggest problems with paraffin wax is that the main ingredient used to make it is petroleum, as a result it produces soot while burning and therefore is not sustainable, and is not something you would want to be breathing in especially if you have small children.
In despite of all this, almost all of the chain store candles and majority of large candle companies are made using Paraffin wax as it is the cheaper option.
If the candle company does not state what wax they use, I would highly suggest that is is Paraffin wax.

Now moving on to Soy Wax, Soy is a vegetable wax made purely from the oil of soy beans.
After the beans have been harvested, they are then cleaned, cracked, de-hulled then rolled into flakes, the oil is then extracted from the. Flakes and hydrogenated, the hydrogenation process converts some of the fatty acids from unsaturated to saturated.
Whilst Soy Wax is a little more expensive than Paraffin candles we think it is definitely worth the cost as it is much more sustainable and still has a good scent through, it also has a lower burning temperature resulting in a longer lasting candle.

We have and always will use Soy Wax in our candles as we believe this is one of the safest and eco friendly waxes on the market today.
